Title:
William McKinley Signed Executive Mansion Letter – February 7, 1900 – Exceptionally Rare Presidential ALS – PSA/DNA Certified Authentic Auto (#85787404)
Description:
Extremely rare handwritten letter signed as President by William McKinley, dated February 7, 1900, on official Executive Mansion, Washington letterhead.
The cream stationery bears the printed heading:
EXECUTIVE MANSION,
WASHINGTON.
The letter is fully handwritten in dark ink and signed in bold script:
“Very truly yours,
William McKinley”
The signature is strong, flowing, and highly legible, showing excellent contrast against the lightly toned period paper. The writing remains clear and well preserved.
This piece is particularly significant and very rare: a fully handwritten presidential letter signed during McKinley’s time in office. Due to his untimely assassination in September 1901, just months into his second term, handwritten presidential letters signed “William McKinley” as President are scarce and highly desirable. The limited window of his presidency, combined with his sudden death, significantly restricts the availability of such material.
The letter has been professionally authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA in a tamper-evident holder.
The reverse shows natural ink bleed-through and expected aging consistent with turn-of-the-century fountain pen correspondence.

Feb 7, 1900Dear Sir,
I thank you for sending me a copy of the first series of your autograph letters (?) and shall look forward with interest to the appearances of the second series.
Truly yours,
William McKinley
Historical Context:
William McKinley (1843–1901), the 25th President of the United States, led the nation during a transformative era that included the Spanish–American War and America’s emergence as a global power. By February 1900, McKinley was in the midst of his first term and preparing for his successful re-election campaign later that year.
Executive Mansion letters predate Theodore Roosevelt’s formal adoption of the name “The White House” in 1901, making such stationery historically important in its own right.
McKinley’s assassination in September 1901 dramatically curtailed the number of presidential documents he personally penned and signed. As a result, fully handwritten letters from his presidency—especially those on official Executive Mansion letterhead—are scarce and increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly in strong condition with a clear signature.
