Title:
Winston Churchill Signed Envelope – Ministry of Munitions of War Stationery, PSA/DNA Certified Authentic Auto (Encapsulated #85641654)

Description:
This is an original hand-addressed and signed envelope by Winston S. Churchill, featuring the embossed seal of the Ministry of Munitions of War in the upper left corner. The envelope is addressed in Churchill’s hand to Sir John Bradbury KCB and boldly signed “Winston S. Churchill” in the lower left corner. It includes the notation "By hand immediate", indicating its urgent delivery.

The envelope shows expected wear consistent with age, including a rough upper edge and paper loss at the flap on the reverse. Nevertheless, the handwriting and signature remain crisp and well preserved, and the envelope is securely encapsulated in a PSA/DNA tamper-evident holder.

The envelope reads:

By hand immediate
Sir John Bradbury KCB
Treasury
Winston S. Churchill

Historical Context:
This envelope dates from Churchill’s service as Minister of Munitions of War, a position he held from July 1917 to January 1919, during the final and most critical phase of World War I. The Ministry of Munitions of War was a key government body responsible for managing armaments production and ensuring the British military was supplied with weapons, ammunition, and equipment.

Churchill was appointed to this role following his political rehabilitation after the Gallipoli campaign. As Minister, he oversaw an immense industrial effort and implemented sweeping reforms to improve efficiency in wartime production. This envelope—sent to Sir John Bradbury, then Permanent Secretary to the Treasury—underscores Churchill’s high-level coordination with financial officials to sustain the war economy.

Artifacts from Churchill’s time in this role are exceedingly rare, predating his premiership and reflecting the administrative and strategic leadership that laid the groundwork for his later wartime legacy.
