Title:
Rutherford B. Hayes Bold Autograph - 19th President of the United States - PSA/DNA Authentic

Description:
An attractive autograph of Rutherford B. Hayes (1822-1893), the 19th President of the United States, boldly signed "R. B. Hayes" in dark ink on a rectangular cream-colored album or autograph-book slip. The signature is large, flowing, and readily legible, presenting an excellent example of Hayes's characteristic abbreviated autograph.

The slip exhibits expected age toning and light scattered surface wear, with remnants of old mounting material covering much of the verso, consistent with its previous placement in an album or collection. The signature itself remains exceptionally clear and well preserved. Exact dimensions of the autograph slip are not provided.

Historical Context:
Rutherford B. Hayes served as the 19th President of the United States from 1877 to 1881, assuming office following the intensely disputed presidential election of 1876. Before entering the White House, Hayes distinguished himself as a Union officer during the Civil War, suffering multiple wounds and eventually receiving the brevet rank of major general. He subsequently served in the U.S. House of Representatives and multiple terms as governor of Ohio.

Hayes's presidency coincided with the closing phase of Reconstruction and the beginning of a new industrial era in the United States. His administration advocated civil-service reform and a return to the gold standard, while the withdrawal of remaining federal troops from the South during his presidency effectively marked the end of Reconstruction.

Authentication & Encapsulation:
The autograph has been professionally authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the accompanying label identifying the piece as "CUT RUTHERFORD B. HAYES PSA/DNA CERTIFIED" and assigning certification number 85855945. The autograph is permanently housed in PSA's tamper-evident holder, providing both authentication and long-term protection.

• Additional Documentation & Provenance: At buyer’s request, Historical Autographs Gallery will include an additional “Historical Autographs Gallery Certificate” signed by our company founder Luke Pascal at no cost.

Closing Appeal:
A handsome, boldly penned presidential autograph with third-party authentication, this Rutherford B. Hayes signature represents an appealing addition to any collection of American presidential, Civil War, or Reconstruction-era material.
