Millard Fillmore Cut Signature – Thirteenth President of the United States – PSA/DNA Certified Authentic
Description:
Cut signature of Millard Fillmore, signed “M. Fillmore” in dark ink on a small strip of cream paper. The autograph displays Fillmore’s characteristic mid-19th-century penmanship, with a refined capital “M” and fluid, connected lettering throughout the surname.
The paper shows light, even age toning consistent with period material. The signature remains bold and clearly legible. The cut has been attractively matted beneath a period-style photographic portrait of Fillmore and encapsulated in a PSA/DNA tamper-evident holder for preservation and display.
Historical Context:
Millard Fillmore (1800–1874) served as the 13th President of the United States (1850–1853), ascending to the presidency upon the death of Zachary Taylor. His administration is most closely associated with the Compromise of 1850, a series of legislative measures aimed at easing sectional tensions between North and South.
Among the most controversial components of the Compromise was the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which Fillmore signed into law, intensifying national debate over slavery and contributing to the growing sectional divide that would eventually lead to the Civil War.
Fillmore later became the final presidential nominee of the Whig Party and subsequently ran as the candidate of the American (Know-Nothing) Party in 1856. Autographs of Fillmore are sought after by collectors of antebellum presidential history, particularly well-preserved signature cuts such as this example.
Authentication & Encapsulation:
Encapsulated and certified authentic by PSA/DNA. The slab label reads:
“CUT – MILLARD FILLMORE – PSA/DNA CERTIFIED – AUTHENTIC AUTO,” with certification number 85750913. The tamper-evident holder ensures secure preservation and verified authenticity.
