Herbert Hoover Signed First Day Cover – October 5, 1935 Postmark – PSA/DNA Certified Authentic Auto

Description:
Presented here is a Herbert Hoover signed First Day Cover (FDC) featuring a bold, clear autograph of the 31st President of the United States (1874–1964). The envelope displays a printed portrait of Hoover at left, with his name below, and is postmarked October 5, 1935, Stanford University, California. Three green 1¢ George Washington stamps are affixed along the top right, each neatly canceled with the same postmark.

The envelope is addressed to E. D. Swartout, Los Angeles, Calif., with the typed label positioned on the lower right corner. Hoover’s striking signature is placed prominently at the lower left, creating a strong visual balance with the portrait. The piece is preserved in excellent condition with expected age toning and is handsomely encapsulated by PSA/DNA.

Historical Context:
Herbert Hoover served as President from 1929 to 1933, presiding during the early years of the Great Depression. Though his presidency is often remembered for the economic hardships of the era, Hoover had a long and impactful public service career both before and after his time in office. A distinguished humanitarian, he was celebrated for his efforts in food relief during World War I and later chaired commissions on government efficiency under Presidents Truman and Eisenhower.

The 1935 postmark is significant—Hoover was then three years removed from the White House, living in California, and beginning to rebuild his reputation as a statesman and public servant. Stanford University, where this cover was canceled, held special significance for Hoover, as he was a member of its first graduating class and a lifelong supporter of the institution.

Authentication & Encapsulation:
This signed First Day Cover has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, the leader in autograph certification. The PSA label reads:

  • "First Day Cover – Herbert Hoover – PSA/DNA Certified – Authentic Auto"

  • Certification Number: 85585694

Closing Appeal:
This Herbert Hoover signed First Day Cover, canceled at Stanford University in 1935, connects both his personal ties to California and his enduring presence in American public life after the presidency. With PSA/DNA certification, Hoover’s distinctive signature, and an attractive presentation, this piece is an outstanding collectible for presidential autograph enthusiasts and early 20th-century political historians alike.
