Executed in dark ink on a cream-colored paper or card stock, the piece bears Cleveland's flowing signature followed immediately beneath by the handwritten date "May 26, 1898."

The signature is boldly executed and well centered, with Cleveland's characteristic sweeping penmanship presenting particularly well within the encapsulation. The paper exhibits mild, even age toning and limited scattered discoloration consistent with its nineteenth-century origin. The reverse bears a small area of discoloration or former mounting residue near the upper center and a small handwritten notation near the upper right.

Importantly, the date places this autograph approximately fourteen months after Cleveland completed his second presidential administration on March 4, 1897.
