Title:
President Franklin Pierce Free Frank Signed Envelope Panel — Addressed to Mrs. Franklin Pierce — PSA/DNA Certified NM-MT 8
Description:
Attractive hand-addressed free frank panel signed by Franklin Pierce (1804–1869), the 14th President of the United States, signed as "Frank Pierce" within and inscribed to his wife, “Mrs. Frank Pierce / care of John Aiken Esq. / Lowell, Mass.” The envelope front bears a clear “Concord, N.H., Feb 14” circular postmark and matching “PAID” stamp in blue ink. Written entirely in Pierce’s hand with his distinctive, flowing penmanship, this example is well preserved with light toning and expected folds from mailing, now encapsulated by PSA/DNA with a grade of NM-MT 8 for autograph quality.
Historical Context:
Before and after his presidency (1853–1857), Franklin Pierce maintained strong ties to his home state of New Hampshire, often corresponding with his wife Jane Means Appleton Pierce during his political travels. As a pre–Civil War president, Pierce’s administration grappled with sectional divisions over slavery and the enforcement of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, events that deepened national tensions leading up to the war. Personal artifacts such as this envelope—addressed lovingly to Mrs. Pierce—offer an intimate glimpse into the domestic life of a president whose term was marked by both political strife and profound personal tragedy.
Authentication & Encapsulation:
Encapsulated and certified by PSA/DNA, graded NM-MT 8 for autograph quality (Cert. #85579874).

Additional Documentation & Provenance: At buyer’s request, Historical Autographs Gallery will include an additional “Historical Autographs Gallery Certificate” signed by our company founder Luke Pascal at no cost.
Closing Appeal:
A highly desirable and elegant Franklin Pierce free frank, personally addressed to his wife and enhanced by an early Concord postal marking. With its excellent preservation and PSA/DNA NM-MT 8 certification, this piece represents both presidential and deeply personal history from the mid-19th century.
