Title: B-29 “Washington” RAF Commemorative Cover – Signed by Paul Tibbets, Tex Hill, Moranville & Rigg, PSA/DNA Slabbed

Description:
This exceptional commemorative cover marks the Royal Air Force's official introduction of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress (designated "Washington" in the RAF) on March 22, 1950. The cover features striking artwork of a B-29 on the runway, postmarked from Jersey (22 MAR 1982) and Confederate Air Force Detachment (Greensboro, NC – June 20, 1982). It bears a limited edition serial number 995 of 1,477, with original stamp and postmark design, and is enclosed in its PSA/DNA tamper-evident slab.

The reverse is hand-signed by four significant figures in American aviation and military history: Brigadier General Paul Tibbets, Tex Hill, H. Blake Moranville, and James F. Rigg—each contributing uniquely to the legacy of WWII and Cold War-era airpower.

Historical Context & Signer Biographies:

  1. Brigadier General Paul W. Tibbets (1915–2007)
Tibbets commanded the 509th Composite Group and piloted the B-29 Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. His leadership during one of the most consequential missions in military history left a lasting imprint on the outcome of World War II and global geopolitics.

  2. Brigadier General David Lee "Tex" Hill (1915–2007)
One of America’s most celebrated fighter aces, Tex Hill served as a squadron leader in the famed Flying Tigers (American Volunteer Group) in China prior to the U.S. entry into WWII. He later flew with distinction in the U.S. Army Air Forces, earning multiple honors for aerial combat. Hill is revered as a symbol of courage, tactical skill, and American air power.

  3. Colonel H. Blake Moranville
A career Air Force officer and aviation historian, Moranville was deeply involved with the Confederate Air Force (now the Commemorative Air Force), which played a major role in preserving and honoring WWII aviation history. His contributions supported numerous commemorative efforts celebrating historic aircraft and missions.

  4. Colonel James F. Rigg
Rigg served with distinction during the Cold War era and participated in commemorative aviation projects later in life. A staunch advocate for historical preservation, he was involved in events and initiatives that honored the legacy of strategic bombers like the B-29.
