Title:
Clinton J. Hill Signed 1961 Secret Service Expense Report – JFK Agent & Dallas Motorcade Hero
Description:
Presented here is an original typed and signed expenditure report from Secret Service Agent Clinton J. Hill, dated April 30, 1961, just months into President John F. Kennedy’s administration. Measuring approximately 8.5" x 11", this one-page document details Agent Hill's daily expenses from April 11–17, 1961, which include purchases of foodstuffs, newspapers, toys, and candy—typical operational and incidental expenses during protective travel assignments. The report is addressed to ATS AIC James G. Jeffries and is neatly signed in blue ink at the bottom by Clinton J. Hill, who also typed his name and designation (“SA, 1–16”). The sheet is well-preserved with only light expected handling wear and remains clear and legible throughout.
Historical Context:
Clinton J. Hill (b. 1932) is one of the most recognized figures in United States Secret Service history, best known for his heroic actions on November 22, 1963, when President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. Agent Hill, assigned to First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, leapt onto the back of the presidential limousine in a desperate and courageous attempt to shield the First Family—an act immortalized in the Zapruder film and countless photographs.
This document predates the tragedy by over two years and offers a rare look at the day-to-day responsibilities and mundane logistics of presidential protection duty. It also provides insight into the early period of the Kennedy administration, reflecting the operational structure of the White House Detail. Expense sheets from Secret Service personnel—especially signed examples from agents with direct ties to major historical events—are extremely uncommon.
