Jackie Robinson Signed Personal Check for $10,000 – Entirely in His Hand (1968) – PSA Authenticated with Full LOA

This exceptionally rare signed check from Jackie Robinson (1919–1972), the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer and civil rights icon, is dated October 14, 1968, and drawn from The State National Bank of Connecticut, North Stamford Office. The check is made payable to Chase Manhattan Bank in the amount of $10,000, a significantly high sum for the time. Unlike many Robinson-signed checks that exist today, this example is entirely handwritten by Robinson himself, including the payee, amount, and signature—making it an even more desirable collectible.

Jackie Robinson in 1968: Activist and Business Leader

By 1968, more than a decade after breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947, Robinson was deeply involved in business, activism, and civil rights advocacy. He was serving as an executive at Chock full o’Nuts, becoming one of the first Black executives at a major U.S. corporation. He was also working with the NAACP and other civil rights organizations, pushing for economic empowerment and equality for African Americans. That year, he publicly supported Hubert Humphrey’s presidential campaign, as he remained a strong voice in political and social causes. Tragically, 1968 was also a year of national unrest, marked by the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a close ally of Robinson. Jackie was outspoken about King’s legacy, continuing his own fight for justice in the wake of the tragedy.

A Rare High-Value Robinson Check

While Jackie Robinson signed checks are known to exist, most are for relatively modest amounts. A check made out for $10,000—a substantial sum in 1968—sets this piece apart from typical examples, reflecting Robinson’s financial dealings at the time, possibly related to his business or real estate interests.

This check has been authenticated by PSA and is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity (LOA), verifying the signature and handwriting as Robinson’s. A remarkable and rare Jackie Robinson collectible, this check stands as both a financial document and a tangible connection to one of the most influential figures in sports and civil rights history.
