Title:
Original 1963 Photograph of President John F. Kennedy Speaking at a Public Event – From the Cecil Stoughton Collection

Description:
Presented here is an original vintage color photograph, approximately 5" x 7", capturing President John F. Kennedy in profile as he delivers a public address outdoors. The natural cliffside backdrop and a full color guard or band ensemble in vivid gold uniforms and white plumed hats frame the scene. Kennedy is seen mid-speech behind a cluster of microphones, embodying the confident presence that defined his public life. The reverse bears the handwritten archival notation “C 310-58-63,” which identifies this photo as originating from the personal collection of official White House photographer Cecil Stoughton. Printed on period-correct “A KODAK PAPER,” the photograph is in excellent condition, exhibiting strong color fidelity and minimal edge wear. Based on all physical and contextual attributes, if submitted for third-party authentication, PSA would designate this as a Type I photograph—an original photographic print developed from the original negative within approximately two years of the image being taken.

Historical Context:
This image was taken by or under the supervision of Cecil W. Stoughton (1920–2008), the first official White House photographer. Appointed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, Stoughton captured many of the most enduring and intimate moments of the Kennedy presidency. His unparalleled access to both public and private events made his body of work a cornerstone of modern presidential visual history. Most famously, Stoughton photographed Lyndon B. Johnson’s swearing-in aboard Air Force One after JFK’s assassination. The code on the verso—“C 310-58-63”—follows Stoughton’s cataloging system, with “63” confirming the photo was taken in 1963, a pivotal and final year in Kennedy’s presidency. Photographs from Stoughton’s personal collection provide direct visual documentation of the Kennedy era from within the administration itself.

Closing Appeal:
This authentic 1963 photograph from the Cecil Stoughton collection offers collectors a visually compelling and historically grounded glimpse of President John F. Kennedy in his final year of leadership. With its strong provenance, presidential relevance, and photographic pedigree, it represents a museum-quality artifact of American political history. As an original print developed during the period, it would be classified by PSA as a Type I photograph, making it a prime acquisition for collectors of presidential memorabilia or vintage photojournalism.
