Description:
This authentic cut signature of Wade Hampton, boldly signed “Wade Hampton / So. Ca”, is neatly penned in dark ink on a cream-colored card. The autograph is crisp and well-preserved with only minor toning and a small ink blot affecting part of the surname, but overall remains legible and appealing. The item has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, labeled as an Authentic Auto.

Historical Context:
Wade Hampton III (1818–1902) was a prominent Confederate cavalry commander during the American Civil War and later a major political figure during Reconstruction. Hailing from one of South Carolina's wealthiest plantation families, he rose to the rank of lieutenant general, playing key roles in campaigns across Virginia and the Carolinas. After the war, Hampton became a symbol of the "Redeemer" movement in the South, serving as Governor of South Carolina (1876–1879) and then as a U.S. Senator (1879–1891). His 1876 gubernatorial campaign was highly controversial and marked by violence and voter suppression during the end of Reconstruction.

Authentication & Encapsulation:
This autograph has been certified by PSA/DNA and is securely housed in a tamper-evident holder with the label:
"CUT – WADE HAMPTON – PSA/DNA CERTIFIED – AUTHENTIC AUTO"

Closing Appeal:
This is a compelling signature from one of the most influential Confederate leaders and postwar Southern politicians. Ideal for collectors of Civil War history, Reconstruction-era politics, or Southern historical figures, this PSA-authenticated cut provides a direct link to one of the defining personalities of 19th-century South Carolina.
