Title:
Robert F. Kennedy TLS with Autograph Postscript to Norman Cousins – PSA/DNA Certified GEM MT 10 | United States Senate Letterhead

Description:
Dated January 10, 1968, this striking Typed Letter Signed (TLS) from Senator Robert F. Kennedy is addressed to influential journalist Norman Cousins, editor of Saturday Review. Typed on official United States Senate letterhead, the letter expresses Kennedy’s gratitude for receiving a copy of Cousins’ book Present Tense and a desk diary. Kennedy closes the typed portion with a warm New Year’s wish and signs his name in full as “Robert F. Kennedy.”

Below the typed signature, Kennedy adds a rare and personal Autograph Postscript (APS) in bold black ink, handwritten entirely in his own hand:

“Many thanks and I'm looking forward to the book. I hope I shall see you soon – Bob”

The letter has been authenticated, graded GEM MT 10, and encapsulated by PSA/DNA. The slabbed letter remains in superb condition, with Kennedy’s distinctive signature and postscript sharply penned and cleanly presented. Certification number: 85402636.

Historical Context:
Robert F. Kennedy (1925–1968), former U.S. Attorney General and Senator from New York, was a central figure in 1960s American politics. By the time of this letter, Kennedy was preparing for his 1968 presidential campaign, which he would officially announce just two months later in March. Tragically, he was assassinated in June of that same year.

This letter reflects Kennedy’s deep intellectual engagement and personal relationships with thought leaders of the era. Norman Cousins, a respected journalist, peace advocate, and humanitarian, was a trusted confidant of several world leaders. RFK’s outreach and handwritten note exemplify his sincere and humanistic approach to both public and private correspondence.
