The historic image captures the slain Dalton brothers being supported upright by attendants after the gun battle, creating one of the more unusual and dramatic visual records associated with the infamous raid.

This striking photograph belongs to the well-known Tackett series documenting the aftermath of the Coffeyville raid, one of the most famous episodes in American outlaw history.

The postcard is printed on early EKC (Eastman Kodak Company) postcard stock with a divided-back format reading "POST CARD," and remains unused, with no writing, postage, or postal cancellations.

Historical Context:
On October 5, 1892, the Dalton Gang attempted the unprecedented robbery of two banks simultaneously in Coffeyville, Kansas. The gang was recognized despite their disguises, allowing armed citizens to confront them in a deadly street battle.

The raid ended in disaster. Bob Dalton, the gang's leader, and his brother Grat Dalton were killed, along with gang members Dick Broadwell and Bill Powers. Only Emmett Dalton survived, despite sustaining numerous gunshot wounds.

Following the gunfight, photographers documented the deceased outlaws, and these images quickly became some of the most recognizable photographs of the American frontier. The Tackett photographs were widely reproduced as Real Photo Postcards during the early twentieth century and remain among the most collectible visual artifacts relating to Western outlaw history.
