Amelia Earhart Fabric Relic – Authentic Segment from the Wing of Lockheed Vega 5B – Ex-Smithsonian Provenance (CAG Encapsulated)

Description:

Offered here is a genuine segment of fabric from the wing of Amelia Earhart’s iconic Lockheed Vega 5B aircraft. This relic features the distinctive red coloration of the Vega’s original fabric skin. Securely encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty (CAG), the relic is presented in a tamper-evident holder with a descriptive label featuring an image of Earhart, the identification “Fabric From Wing of Lockheed Vega 5B – Ex. Smithsonian,” and the unique serial number 2134853-008.

The fabric is well-preserved and clearly visible within the holder, a link to one of the most storied aircrafts in aviation history.

Historical Context:

Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Vega 5B holds a revered place in aviation lore. In this very aircraft, Earhart achieved several groundbreaking milestones, including her record-setting solo transatlantic flight on May 20–21, 1932, making her the first woman—and only the second person after Charles Lindbergh—to fly solo across the Atlantic. Additionally, she flew the Vega to set the first nonstop solo transcontinental flight by a woman in 1932.

The aircraft, painted in its signature bright red, became a symbol of Earhart’s daring spirit and trailblazing accomplishments. Today, the restored Lockheed Vega 5B is housed in the Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight Gallery at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

This relic comes from fabric that was removed during conservation efforts. As noted by the Smithsonian, deteriorated portions of the original fabric were carefully replaced, and select fragments were preserved and distributed as part of the Aviation Relic Series, offering collectors a chance to own an authentic piece of aviation history.
