Title:
Al Capone-Owned Embroidered Napkin from the Estate of Al & Mae Capone – Witherell’s Lot No. 110, As Seen on Netflix's King of Collectibles, Season 3, Episode 3
Description:
This is an original embroidered linen napkin personally owned by infamous mobster Al Capone and his wife Mae Capone, originating from their family estate. The napkin features elegant floral embroidery and scalloped edging, part of a larger table set that included a tablecloth and twelve matching napkins. This particular napkin comes from Lot No. 110 in the 2021 Witherell’s auction titled The Estate of Al Capone, held in Sacramento, California.
The item is accompanied by a copy of the original Witherell’s certificate, which identifies the lot as “Al and Mae Capone’s Embroidered Tablecloth with (12) Napkins,” and includes the signature of Capone’s granddaughter, Barbara Mae Capone. The napkin itself is in excellent vintage condition, showing minimal wear consistent with age and domestic use.
Historical Context:
Al Capone (1899–1947), the infamous leader of the Chicago Outfit, is a figure whose legend looms large in American history. Known for his control over bootlegging, gambling, and organized crime during Prohibition, Capone also maintained a carefully guarded family life with his wife Mae and their only son, Sonny. This napkin offers a rare and humanizing glimpse into Capone's domestic world—far removed from his public persona as a feared gangster.
This very piece was featured on Netflix’s King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch, Season 3, Episode 3, which showcased items from the Capone estate and the extraordinary public fascination with the relics of America’s most notorious mob boss.
Authentication & Encapsulation:
While the napkin is not encapsulated, it is stored in an archival sleeve for protection and preservation.
